Welcome To Celtic Cause

Darmuid Hanafin of Celtic Cause and Hanifan’s Irish Pub in New London is launching the construction of three traditional Irish Rowing Boats. The Currachs will be built at The Crocker House on State Street in New London by Master Builder Monty O’Leary from County Kerry. O’Leary will be assisted by Lorchan Otway of New York City. O’Leary will be demonstrating the construction technique to Mystic Seaport’s Ship Wright, Wade Smith.

O’Leary will be arriving from Ireland on Friday, February 16. O’Leary and Otway will be introduced to the community on Saturday, February 17 at 7PM at Hanafin’s Irish Pub on State Street in New London. Construction will begin on the Currachs on Monday, February 20.

The Currachs will travel around the region as part of cultural and educational events, and will be entered into regional rowing competitions.
